Two more for the Hornets Blue Line
The Bracknell Hornets are delighted to announce the addition of two more players to their 2015/16 NIHL squad - returning defencemen Jack Baveystock and Simon Griffiths.
22-year old Jack returns to Bracknell for another season having returned to Bracknell last year after three years at university in Nottingham. He played 71 matches with the Nottingham Lions and picked up 4 goals and 16 assists, helping his side to a league championship title in 2012/13. In 24 games with us last year Jack scored 2 goals and picked up 2 assists.
32-year old Simon broke into the Guildford Flames in the old British National League in 1998/99. In 2002/03, he moved to Bracknell and joined the Hornets, scoring 5 goals and picking up 2 assists in 23 matches. Work commitments limited his senior appearances over the next few years until he returned to hockey full time in 2012 with the Basingstoke Buffalo. Simon spent last season with us. In 104 NIHL-level matches, Simon has scored 9 goals and picked up 17 assists.
Hornets Head Coach Danny Hughes said; “I’ve known Jack since he was a junior at the club and am glad he's returned. He has good size, likes to play the body and will be a popular guy in the room. Simon was really impressive last season and it's great to have him on board for this year. He reads things well and calmly does the simple things first”
Hornets add Three
The Bracknell Hornets are delighted to announce the addition of three more players to their 2014/15 NIHL squad -returning forward Cam Barker, Ilya Antinov and Harvey Hind-Pitcher.
18-year old Cam returns for his third season in a Hornets jersey. A product of Bracknell's junior programme, in 63 NIHL matches for the Hornets Cam has scored 4 goals and picked up 5 assists.
20-year old Ilya is also a product of the Bracknell junior programme and has iced for the Bees 28 times, in 49 games for the Hornets Ilya scored 3 goals and picked up 10 assists.
Finally 18-year old Harvey another product of the Bracknell junior programme will start his first full season as Hornet, last year he shared his duties between the Hornets and the Under 18 Drones where he scored 4 times with 9 assists in 16 games.
Hornets Head Coach Danny Hughes said; “Cam plays with a smile on his face and a carefree spirit, but he always works hard every shift and will do anything he is asked and has a good shot on him which I am sure will throw a few net minders off this coming season.
Harvey will play his 1st full senior season for the Hornets this year, His is a strong young player coming through the junior system, Harvey is a hard working player who is always looking to learn and improve his game and I am looking forward to working with him this season. Ilya is a fast skater and he work’s hard in training and in games and gives 100% every shift. I am looking forward to working with the three of them this season”
Import changes at Bracknell Hornets
The Bracknell Hornets have decided to release popular Slovakian forward Peter Jasik who due to increase in his work load is unable to fully commit to the Hornets for the 2015/16 National Ice Hockey League (NIHL) season.
The whole of the Bracknell club, players and backroom staff would like to thank Peter for the last three seasons and wish him well going forward.
We can, however announce the signing of 30-year old Czech Republic D-man Tomas Fojtik to the Hornets for the 2015/16 National Ice Hockey League (NIHL) season.
Tomas has played 65 games in the EPIHL over the last three seasons scoring 7 goals and picking up 25 assists with 105 minutes of penalties.
Prior to coming to the UK he played mainly in the Czech Republic with short spells in the US, France and Italy.
Hornets Head Coach Danny Hughes said; “Tomas is an imposing defencemen standing at 6’5 giving him a big presence on the ice and he has a very hard shot.
I am looking forward to working with him this season”
Greg Chambers joins Hornets
The Bracknell Hornets are delighted to announce the signing of experienced Canadian forward Greg Chambers for the 2015/16 National Ice Hockey League campaign.
32-year old Greg started his career in the Ontario Hockey League with the Peterborough Petes before moving to Italy.
He is no stranger to these shores either moving here in 2005 he has played at all levels in the UK including GB, in 322 games in the EIHL Greg has picked up 382 points (130 Goals and 252 assists), in his three years in the EPIHL he scored 51 goals and picked up 131 assists in 142 games.
After a short spell with Invicta in the NIHL last year he took a break from hockey.
Hornets Head Coach Danny Hughes said;” I am really happy that Greg has agreed to sign for the Hornets, I spoke to him early in the summer and he is keen to get back on the ice, he has the ability to be the best import in this league and I am excited and looking forward to working with him this season.”
Hornets sign Stewart Tait
The Bracknell Hornets are pleased to announce that Stewart Tait has agreed to sign for the 2015/16 National Ice Hockey League (NIHL) season.
34-year old Stewart is no stranger to British hockey having started playing in the 1998/99 season.
He played 245 games in the BNL/EPL splitting his time between Slough Jets and the Wightlink Raiders scoring 17 goals and picking up 49 assists and 366 PIMs.
This was followed with 204 games in the NIHL (formally ENL) where his time was split between the Wightlink Raiders and Streatham Redskins picking up 146 points (24 goals and 122 assists).
Hornets Head Coach Danny Hughes said; “I have known Stewart for a number of years, he is a strong stay at home d man and a great utility player and as such is a valuable player to have on any team. He will bring a wealth of experience and a great knowledge of the game and he will support and mentor the younger players on and off the ice”
The Jazzman returns
The Bracknell Hornets are delighted to announce the return of popular Slovakian forward Peter Jasik for the 2015/16 National Ice Hockey League (NIHL) season.
35-year old Peter returns for his third straight season in a Hornets jersey having scored 57 goals and picked up 53 assists in 86 games over the last few years.
Peter first arrived in Bracknell at the start of the Bees' 2007/08 English Premier League campaign and instantly became a fans' favourite, helping the club win the League Cup and finish as Play Offs Runner Up.
After a second season with the Bees, Peter joined the Slough Jets for a year, this time winning the EPL Play Offs, before returning home to Bracknell again.
In 234 EPL matches, he scored a total of 136 goals and had 151 assists. Peter's senior career began with HK Dukla Trencin in the Slovakian Extraliga and he also had spells in the Czech Republic, Hungary and France before moving to England.
Hornets Head Coach Danny Hughes said; "Peter has agreed to return for another year, he is an exceptional player with great speed and amazing hands. He is well respected by his team mates, leads by example and continually offers great advice to the junior players.
I am really excited about regaining his services again for this season."
Hornets bolster the blue line
The Bracknell Hornets are delighted to announce the return of experienced defencemen Luke Reynolds and Matt Jordan for the 2015/16 National Ice Hockey League (NIHL) season.
30-year old Luke broke through Bracknell's junior ranks in the 2002/03 season to make his Hornets debut and soon followed that up with a Bees debut the next year.
Luke's impressive form duly saw him play for two seasons in the Elite Ice Hockey League with Basingstoke before spells with Chelmsford, Romford, Wightlink, Slough and Streatham, making friends and becoming a firm fans' favourite wherever he played.
But only nine games into the 2012/13 NIHL season, Luke returned home again to the Hornets and quickly proved what a valuable asset he is.
In 186 career NIHL-level games, he has scored 21 goals and picked up 61 assists. The highlight of Luke's senior career to date was being part of the outstanding Bees squad, crowned as British National League champions in 2004/05.
Hornets Head Coach Danny Hughes said;” I am pleased Luke agreed to sign for another season he is an outstanding leader, always has sound advice for the more junior players, reads the game extremely well and is respected by all.
He also gives 100% every shift and it's great to be working with him again."
27-year old Matt returns for his ninth season in a Hornets jersey, having made his debut in 2005/06.
Since then, in 203 NIHL level games, Matt has picked up 96 points from the blue line (18 goals and 78 assists), having also had brief spells in Basingstoke and Slough.
He has also picked up English Premier Ice Hockey League (EPIHL) experience with the Bracknell Bees and Slough Jets.
His impressively consistent performances last season Hornets Head Coach Danny Hughes said; “I’m pleased Matt has agreed to return for this coming year he has a wealth of experience behind him, very calm on the puck in our zone and also brings an offensive threat to the blue line and has no problem stepping up and playing the body.
He is also great in the changing rooms which is important to have in every team. Matt is an excellent leader on and off the ice.”
Three more for the Hornets
The Bracknell Hornets are pleased to announce that Danny House, Brandon Miles have agreed to sign and that Josh Martin will return for the 2015/16 National Ice Hockey League (NIHL) season.
20-year old Josh joined the Hornets midway through last season and became a firm favourite with his feisty style of play.
Hornets Head Coach Danny Hughes said; “Josh has agreed to return to the Hornets for this coming year.
I personally like his style of play, he is a hard working player that will stick to systems and likes to finish his hits, I am happy to have him on board again.”
25 year-old Danny is well known at Bracknell, a product of the Bracknell Junior Programme he went on to play 146 games with the Bees; he last played for the Hornets in 2010/11 before moving to France for work.
Hornets Head Coach Danny Hughes said; “I spoke to Danny early in the summer break and he is very excited to get started.
The gritty forward has a lot of experience behind him and has already been working hard to get ready for this coming season I look forward to working with him in the season.”
19 year-old Brandon is a product of the Slough Junior Programme where he dressed 52 times with the EPL Jets, in 64 games with Slough NIHL 2 Jets as well as a short stint with Streatham in NIHL 1 he managed to pick up 58 points (28 goals and 30 assists).
Hornets Head Coach Danny Hughes said; “After talking with Brandon he was very keen to join the club, I have seen him play, he is a good player for his age, he can pass , shoot and isn’t afraid to put the hits in and this is what I will be looking for from him this coming year.”
Hornet Newminding Duo
The Bracknell Hornets are pleased to announce that Danny Milton has agreed to sign and that Mark Duffy will return for the 2015/16 National Ice Hockey League (NIHL) season.
Mark joined the Hornets last season and was instantly a fan's and player's favourite with his positive attitude on the bench, 27-year old Mark was called on a number of times last season and he never let us down finishing with an 87.7% average.
Hornets Head Coach Danny Hughes said; “Mark has agreed to return for another year. He has come on a lot in the last year after taking some time out of ice hockey, he is committed to the Hornets and last year was always there when we needed him.
He works hard on and off the ice so I had no question on bringing him back.
Duffy will see a lot more ice time this year.”
21-year old Danny is a product of the Slough Junior programme where he played 20 games for the Slough EPL Jets; last year he was a key part of the Slough ENL Jets where he posted a 94.6% save percentage in 18 games.
Hornets Head Coach Danny Hughes said; “Danny is a strong net minder, he has decided he needs to progress in a higher league than NIHL 2 and I am happy he has agreed to sign for the team this summer.”
The return of forwards Tom Fisher and Ryan Handisides
The Bracknell Hornets are pleased to announce the return of forwards Tom Fisher and Ryan Handisides for the 2015/16 National Ice Hockey League (NIHL) season.
21-year old Tom is a product of the Bracknell junior programme and returns for his seventh season in a Hornets jersey.
In 191 NIHL games, Tom has picked up 133 points (38 goals and 95 assists) and also represented the Bracknell Bees on 19 occasions.
Hornets Head Coach Danny Hughes said; “Tom has agreed to return to the Hornets for another season, he is a solid, reliable and on his day can be an exceptional Centre man.
Strong on face offs with good vision and tenacity in front of the net and is very smart when passing the puck and solid defensively; I expect to see this same again from him this season.”
Sheffield-born 23-year old Ryan also joined the Hornets at the start of the 2012/13 season. Since then in 95 games with the Hornets he has picked up 55 points (22 goals and 33 assists).
Before moving to Bracknell, Ryan played for his home town Spartans team in the NIHL as well as 61 games in the EPIHL Scimitars.
In 2008/09, Ryan was selected to represent Great Britain in the Under 18 World Junior Championships Div. 2B, where his 1 goal and 2 assists helped the team win the Gold Medal.
Hornets Head Coach Danny Hughes said; "Getting Ryan back was to my key recruitment priorities this summer.
Ryan had another excellent year last season; he leads by example and his energetic performances lift the whole team, he is a fast skater and has good hands.
He also works well in corners and I am l looking forward to working with him this coming season.”
